Stinky day

By Pops

There are often stinky days on Farscape Farm and almost invariably, they involve manure. Whether shoveling it, moving it, spreading it or just shifting bins, it’s a good bet that if you have a stinky day in involves manure.

Our “hayman”, shout out to Cory Shellhammer, was kind enough to bring his chisel plow to turn over our ¼ acre ground garden and once that’s done, its time to manure the fields. No big deal, right? Yeah, but. Yeah, but you need to take your skid steer and shift a couple of tons of thick, heavy, smelly stuff. You go from the bin to the manure spreader making sure to get as little on the ground as possible, because you are going to have to pick up hunks by hand or get a shovel. Then you take your tractor with manure spreader attached to the PTO, go to the garden, having to stop to open the gate, and let the poop fly behind you, in front of you, to the side of you with the hands that spin while the manure gets carried from the back to the front of the spreader. And then lather, rise, repeat until the bin is empty and you move to the next bin, Anyway, you get my drift.

So today was an especially stink day.
